Market Report – 8 January 2020

Total Yarding: 23,163

Numbers were back for the first sale of the year. Quality was also effected with plenty of store lambs looking dry. Trade weights were well supplied along with good numbers of heavy weights but again most were dry. All the usual buyers were operating in a steady lamb market.

Most of the new season lambs went to restockers and feeders and sold from $100 to $150/head. Shorn lambs to the trade to 24kg sold from $141 to $178 and heavy weights from $170 to $226/head. Most are averaging 720c to 760c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred hoggets reached $178/head.

Mutton numbers were also back and quality was fair to good. Prices were much stronger with medium weight ewes $108 to $170/head. Heavy crossbreds made from $156 to $205 and Merinos reached $190/head. Most averaged 620c to 650c/kg cwt.
