Total Yarding: 6776

Lamb numbers eased and the quality remains mixed. There were plenty of light and secondary trade lambs and only a small run of trade weight lambs with a good fat cover. Heavy lambs were limited. The market sold to stronger trends with gains of $9 to $12 on the light and secondary trade lambs and the better trade lambs were $13 to $16 stronger. The limited supply of heavy weights were firm.

Light 2 score processing lambs sold from $55 to $116/head. The medium and heavy trade weights 20 to 24kg ranged from $135 to 168/head averaging 680c with the best out to 725c/kg for second cross lambs. The 24 to 26kg lambs $169 to $174/head or 670c/kg and 26kg and heavier reached $198/head. The best of the hoggets reached $135/head.

Mutton numbers eased and the quality remains mixed, but prices lifted $10 to $15/head. Medium weight ewes sold from $37 to $89/head, heavy crossbred ewes reached $99 and Merinos $100/head and most averaged from 275c to 290c/kg cwt.

Prime Cattle – 18 April 2024

Total Yarding: 1,822

Numbers continue to increase, lifting by 780, for a total yarding of 1822 mixed quality cattle. There were several lines of outstanding grown steers, along with some good pens of yearlings attracting keen competition between feedlot buyers and the restocker orders. Well finished yearlings to suit the trade were limited, and there were 580 mostly plainer quality cows. All the usual buyers were operating, selling to a softer market.

Trade yearling steers slipped 15c, selling from 280c to 320c, and heifers to process also cheaper, making from 240c to 290c/kg. Feeder steers slipped 15c ranging from 250c to 342c, and heifers to feed were 20c softer, to average 262c/kg.

Well, finished heavy cattle were firm, however the plainer types were heavily discounted. Steers sold from 212c to 327c, and heifers made from 190c to 300c/kg. Leaner cows to process were at least 40c cheaper, and heavy prime cows declined 30c, selling from 174c to 236c/kg.

Lamb numbers eased and the quality was plain to fair with only a limited supply of well finished trade lambs and heavy weights were scarce. There were fewer restockers orders in place and not all of the regular buyers were operating. The market sold to cheaper trends.

Restocking lambs to 16kg sold from $8 to $105/head averaging $66 were back $20/head. processing lambs at a similar weight slipped $15 to $20 with most selling from $65 to $108/head. The few better trade lambs were firm to $3 cheaper with the medium and heavy weights selling from $122 to $152/head to average 595c to 615c/kg with the really neat lambs out to around 660c/kg. Heavy lambs ranged from $142 to $190/head with the best of the very limited supply averaging 680c/kg. Heavy hoggets lost $20 and reached $108/head.

Mutton numbers eased and the quality remained mixed. Prices were anywhere from $12 to $25/head cheaper. Light ewes sold from $14 to $26/head. Medium weights ranged from $44 to $77 and heavy crossbreds reached $89/head. Merino wethers topped at $83/head. Most averaging 230c to 240c/kg.

Special Weaner Cattle – 12 April 2024

Total Yarding: 6,202

Numbers increased and the quality improved with a fresher run of weaners. There were mostly medium and heavy weights offered with only a small tail of light weights. Angus and Angus cross weaners made up over 95 percent of the offering with a sprinkle of British bred cattle and a few Euro crosses. Compared to the last weaner sale Angus steers were firm and heifers lifted $30 to $50/head. The other breeds lifted between $80 and $140/head but numbers were limited and the quality better.

Medium weight Angus weaners to 280kg sold from $750 to $1370/head and most averaged around 400c/kg, the British breed averaged 350c to 380c/kg. Heavy weights weighing 381kg reached $1490/head or 391c/kg. Medium weight heifers sold between $625 and $935/head to average 320c and the best of the heavy weights reached $1020/head or 292c/kg for 349kg.

There was a slight increase in numbers, for a total yarding of 1078 fair to good quality cattle. There were some good runs of well finished yearlings to suit the processors, along with some outstanding pens of heavy grown cattle. Feeder cattle lacked the quality of previous sales and there were 400 cows. Weaners were in limited supply, due to the 7000 head in tomorrow. All the usual buyers were operating, selling to a mostly firm to stronger market.

Trade yearlings lifted 6c, selling from 285c to 344c/kg. Medium weight feeder steers were also 6c dearer, making from 285c to 371c, and those over 400kg to feed, were back 10c, quality related, ranging from 260c to 361c/kg. Heifers to feed slipped 7c to average 284c/kg.

Heavy grown cattle were firm to a few cents better, making from 200c to 330c/kg. 2 and 3 score cows, price unchanged and heavy prime cows jumped 4c, selling from 240c to 271c/kg. The best heavy weight bull topped at 240c/kg.
